TEHRAN (FNA)- Managing director of Iran's National Electricity Company Soufian Basir voiced his company's preparedness to invest in Indonesia's power sector that is seeking to add some 35,000 megawatts of electricity to its production capacity.

"Iran is one of the countries interested to invest in the Indonesia's power sector," Basir said on Friday.

He reiterated that Iran has adopted new approaches to accelerate projects involved in the production of 35,000 megawatts of electricity.

Caretaker of Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan had earlier mentioned Iran's readiness to invest in his country's power sector.

After a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Indonesia, Valiollah Mohammadi, he said that Iran has voiced preparedness to build a power plant with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts in Indonesia.

Indonesia currently faces power shortage for development purposes and it has now turned into an importer of electricity after depletion of oil reserves.

In April, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the Indonesian vice-president in a meeting in Istanbul underlined the need for the further expansion of mutual cooperation.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the summit meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, President Rouhani and Jusuf Kalla explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations.

"The ground is ready for enhanced ties between Iran and Indonesia after removal of anti-Iran sanctions and resumption of banking ties," President Rouhani said.

The Iranian president went on to say that Iran and Indonesia have good potentials for expansion of ties in the fields of energy, industry, tourism, science and research.

He also urged the private sectors of the two countries to boost their ties.

The Indonesian vice-president also said that Indonesia's President Joko Widodo will pay a visit to Tehran in the near future.
